According to the Supreme Court, CJN and Tinubu did not communicate

On Wednesday, the Supreme Court denied claims that Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, the Chief Justice of Nigeria, spoke with President Bola Tinubu and the Director General of the Department of State Services on the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal.

The Supreme Court cautioned that Nigeria may not grow if lies and mudslinging persist.

“No telephone talks between CJN and anybody relating to the Presidential Election Petition,” said Supreme Court Director of Press and Information Dr. Festus Akande.

“In view of the rumour currently circulating in the social media space that the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, had a telephone conversation with His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Director General of the Department of State Service to pressurise the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal on the likely judgement to give, it is imperative to state clearly that there is no iota of truth in the narrative, as t

“Nigerians are enthusiastically watching the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal hearings. Hence, we should keep up the pace and not fall into conjecture and rumour-mongering. If this untruth and mudslinging continue, our country may not advance.

“The Courts are statutorily formed to serve the public’s best interests, and we are always ready to do so. We urge everyone to work with the court to serve the nation, as no one will be favoured in any issue.

“The rule of law and supremacy of the Nigerian Constitution will always be preserved and applied in every issue that comes before the courts. The facts presented and the existing laws must be used in evaluating the merit or otherwise of any matter. The public may be certain that justice will be done in all current court cases around the nation, regardless of who is involved.”
