Amb. Prof. Olumuyiwa Babalola, Convener of the National Peace Advisers/Assistants (NPAs) initiative of the World Peace Organization (WPO) and Resident Country Director of Diplomatic Mission Peace and Prosperity (DMPP), said only political and diplomatic mechanisms can resolve the Niger Republic crisis.

He also urged ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government Chairman Bola Tinubu to rethink the continental bloc’s planned military intervention to restore democracy in Niger.

The Convener said only diplomatic and political means could resolve the issue.

He also urged President Tinubu to rescue Nigerians via these methods.

Babalola said that the recent unveiling ceremony of the Special Advisers on Peace Matters to assist the Federal and Local levels of government in Nigeria, supported by the World Peace Programme for Sustainable Development Network, would allow Nigerians to preach, practice, and live in peace whenever they find themselves, complementing the government’s efforts to achieve lasting peace.

“This is because, already, we are having the problem of insecurity ranging from banditry and kidnapping to farmers, herders’ feuds across the country, as well as the insurgency in the North, militancy in the Niger Delta, and political violence in the South-East, which has left the country behind in national and social-economic developments.

Only human-centred peace efforts and procedures can establish enduring peace. “Hence, the development of Special Advisers on peace issues, which is the first of its type in Nigeria and Africa, to help the government achieve sustainable peace at the federal, state, and Local levels for national unity and progress,” Prof. Babalola said.
