Having lost the 2023 election to the Labour Party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial election, has been accused by Nollywood stars from Abia State of trying to reverse the results.
The actors told Leadership Sunday in Umuahia that the PDP was trying to mortgage the state after losing badly.
Ejike Asiegbu, Osita Offor, Emma Ehumadu, Chinedu Ikedieze, Emeka Enyiocha, Michael Ugochukwu, and UK-based Favour Nzeanochie joined.
Alex Otti defeated Okey Ahiwe in the March 18 gubernatorial election.
“They are seeking to adopt the same strategy utilised by a current governor in a neighbouring state, so depriving Ndi-Abia of the rightful government people voted for,” they said.
They found that certain PDP members were using legal means to overturn the vote that had given Abians optimism that their long-awaited dream of freedom was possible.
Notwithstanding the PDP’s intimidation, repression, and harassment before and during the election, Abians showed exceptional fortitude.
“Based on the aforementioned, it is vitally necessary that this mandate that was freely given to Otti be safeguarded and secured so that Abians can enjoy the democratic dividend Otti promised,” they added.
The players said they knew about the PDP’s midnight meetings to purchase the judgement and its desire to keep the state in thrall.
“We have learned that the desperation has increased owing to the government’s rotten finances and the worry that Otti will open the books when he becomes president.”
They urged President Muhammadu Buhari and all well-meaning Nigerians to persuade Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and the PDP to uphold the people’s mandate.
