Abbo: Akpabio orchestrated my removal from the Senate; his next target is Orji Kalu

In the appeal court ruling that ousted him, Adamawa North senator Elisha Abbo blamed Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Abuja Court of Appeal overturned Abbo’s All Progressives Congress election (APC).

Abbo’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) opponent, Amos Yohanna, challenged INEC’s February 25, 2023 parliamentary election result in court.

Yohanna’s petition was denied by the tribunal for lack of merit.

The PDP candidate approached the Appeal Court through his counsel, Johnson Usman (SAN).

After hearing arguments from the parties, the Court of Appeal agreed with Usman that the results showed no compliance with Section 137 of the Electoral Act 2022.

After subtracting invalid votes, the court found that Yohanna and PDP won by most lawful votes.

Justice C.E. Nwosu-three-member Iheme’s panel, ordered INEC to issue Yohanna a Certificate of Return as a validly elected senatorial district lawmaker.

Abbo said four senators who opposed Akpabio as Senate President were targeted for removal from the Red Chamber after the court’s ruling.

Abbo told reporters in Abuja on Monday that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu (APC Abia North) would be removed from the Senate next.

I have it from a reliable source that I and four other senators in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) will be removed from the Senate by court rulings for opposing Akpabio’s election as the 10th Senate president.

I won’t name the other four targeted, but Senator Orji Uzor Kalu is next.

He wondered how the Appeal Court overturned his victory over his closest river, Peoples Democratic Party candidate Yohanna Amos Yohanna, by over 11,000 votes.

Abbo said, “The court judgement is strange, and the judiciary needs to please remain the last hope of the common man.”

He urged his supporters to stay calm and promised to run again in 2027.

Akpabio’s response to Senator Abbo’s allegation was unavailable.

Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio’s Special Adviser, Media and Publicity, did not answer calls. He has not responded to WhatsApp or text messages.
