The rainfall that fell in Lagos between May 1 and May 15 affected 336 families and 228 buildings in varying degrees, according to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
This is said in a statement provided to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Lagos and signed by Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, Territorial Coordinator NEMA, Lagos office.
According to Farinloye, significant events on May 1 and May 15 both saw heavy wind and rainstorms. However, there were no injuries or fatalities and minor property damage to public and private structures.
He said that NEMA evaluated the communities of Agboyi 1, Agboyi 2, Agboyi 3, and Odo Ogun in Kosofe Local Government Area of Lagos State. On May 1, the disaster had an impact on 228 families and about 130 homes that were either completely or partially damaged.
He claims that the incident on May 15 had an impact on 108 families and 98 buildings in Agege, Ifako Ijaye, Ikola, Isale Aboru, and Oke Ishagun, all of which are in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.
He noted that the impacted regions had roughly 13 electric poles.
Farinloye advised Nigerians to show the utmost caution, particularly when at work.
Children must not be sent on errands or permitted to play outside for several hours before it starts to rain.
“School officials must exercise caution and teach the kids to take cover under their furnishings to avoid being hurt by falling debris.
Farinloye said, “We must avoid seeking cover behind improvised furnishings and trees.
NAN reports that some buildings at Ijegun, Ikotun-Igando LCDA in the state had their roofs destroyed by the May 14 rain and strong winds.
