In a recent gathering in Irrua, Esan Central local government area, the Legacy Group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), spearheaded by Chief Dan Orbih, National Vice Chairman, South-South, expressed appreciation for Sen. Monday Okpebholo’s collaborative efforts with the federal government in kickstarting rehabilitation work on the Benin-Auchi-Okenne road. However, they directed a challenge at Governor Godwin Obaseki, urging him to showcase his accomplishments for the people of Edo State during his tenure.

The group underscored that their support in the upcoming governorship election would hinge upon Governor Obaseki’s demonstrated dedication to the welfare of the populace and the state. Orbih, flanked by prominent party figures like former Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly Frank Okiye, stressed the necessity of prioritizing the state’s welfare above partisan interests. They voiced disappointment over what they perceived as neglect from the Obaseki administration despite their pivotal role in securing his re-election in 2020. Similar sentiments were echoed in meetings held in Edo South and Edo North.

Orbih emphasized the need for a leader who would address the challenges faced by the people and foster a strong sense of inclusion. He cautioned against falling for deceitful promises and urged vigilance among attendees.

Hon. Felix Akhabue, the group’s leader in Edo Central, reiterated their dissatisfaction with the treatment they received from PDP leadership in the 2023 and 2024 elections despite their significant contributions to Governor Obaseki’s victory in 2020. He made it clear that the purpose of the gathering was to demand fair treatment from the party leadership, or else the Legacy Group would consider alternative options.
