Hilda Effiong Bassey, a.k.a. Hilda Baci, a prominent Nigerian chef, has received praise from Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for beating the 96-hour goal and setting a 100-hour record.
Hilda had originally planned to finish at 4 p.m. today, surpassing the previous record holder for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual” with a 96-hour run.
The Akwa Ibom woman turned on her cooker at 4 p.m. on Thursday to start the competition, and on Monday morning, she beat the previous world record holder.
If verified after the 100th hour, she will surpass Lata Tondon, an Indian chef who now holds the record with 87 hours and 45 minutes of record-breaking uninterrupted cooking.
Osinbajo responded on Monday night via his verified Twitter account, congratulating Hilda on her most recent accomplishment of shattering the record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual.”
The Vice President called the accomplishment exceptional and said that Nigerians as a whole are very proud of her.
“Congratulations on breaking the record for the “longest cooking marathon by an individual,” the man wrote in his message. What a remarkable accomplishment! All of us are incredibly proud of you.
