Nigerian Para-Badminton sensation Mariam Eniola Bolaji emerged victorious in the women’s singles SL3 category at the recently concluded Spanish Para-Badminton International 2024 held in Victoria, Spain.

Ranked 10th globally, Bolaji delivered a stellar performance, defeating the 6th-ranked player, Oksana Kozyna of Ukraine, in a straight-set victory of 2-0 (21-13, 21-8) to clinch the coveted gold medal over the weekend.

Bolaji’s journey to the title saw her triumph over world number 13, Emona Ivanova from Bulgaria, in a commanding 2-0 (21-4, 21-8) victory, setting the stage for her showdown with the 2023 silver medalist in the finals.

In earlier rounds, Mariam Bolaji showcased her prowess, dispatching India’s Mandeep Kaur Mandeep, the top seed, in a decisive 2-0 (21-10, 21-8) victory. She commenced her campaign with a dominant performance against England’s Victoria Bailey, securing a comfortable 2-0 (21-5, 21-4) win in the opening round of the 2024 Spanish International.

Francis Orbih, President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria, expressed immense joy over Bolaji’s latest triumph, highlighting her remarkable performance and ascent in World Para-Badminton.

Orbih remarked, “I am thrilled that Mariam Eniola Bolaji has secured her second Spanish International title since her debut in 2021. Bolaji, who clinched her maiden gold in 2021, has now made history in 2024 with her remarkable victory against the highly experienced Oksana Kozyna. Despite Kozyna’s higher ranking and past accolades, Bolaji exhibited exceptional skill and determination in the final match.”

“As the Paris Paralympic Games draw near, the Federation is committed to providing Bolaji with the necessary support and resources to enhance her preparation. She stands as a formidable contender to bring glory to Nigeria on the global stage,” Orbih concluded.
